An especially compassionate and invested guardian, Anu shares deeply the joys and sorrows of the family he protects. Particularly helpful for those at a crossroads, he is said to leave signs – feathers in one’s path, unusual coincidences – pointing in the right direction.
Anu is an original sculpture from Michael Upton’s series, House Guardians. He can be placed inside or outside the home to serve as a guardian, patron, and protector of all within his domain.
Born of a pure desire to play and a love for folk and outsider art, each House Guardian is handmade by the artist. Anu’s face is made from mortar, his eyes from pewter, and his base created using the traditional Japanese art of Shou Sugi Ban, a technique that preserves wood by charring it with fire.
